• Buy the largest size shirt that your scout is comfortable wearing. Kids grow fast and this will allow you to get 2-3 years out of the uniform. This will also save you from having to transfer patches to a new shirt quicker than expected! Many Tigers purchase a size Medium.
• Most scouts wear the short sleeve uniform shirt. They wear a solid colored long sleeve shirt underneath during the cold months.
• There are many ways to attach the badges and patches to uniform shirts. If you have the patience (or know someone who does), many say that sewing is best for the uniform patches. Others use Badge Magic (available at the scout shops and online). There is patch-glue, but several have found the adhesive does not last through the wash cycle. Some local dry cleaners will sew them on.
• We often find lost neckerchief slides after pack meetings. We recommend you permanent ink your name on the back, and use either a “behind-the-scenes” hidden big rubber band or hidden large safety pin to secure to a side of the neckerchief, to prevent them from getting lost.
Scouting.org has a patch placement diagram that is very helpful for applying all those patches.
The class A uniform is the official Cub Scout uniform and consists of the navy blue dress shirt (or khaki for Arrow of Light) with properly affixed insignia (council shoulder patch, pack number, den number patch, American flag, world crest, etc), neckerchief, etc. The class A uniform is worn at Pack meetings, den meetings, parades, during popcorn sales, while volunteering, etc.
The class B uniform is less formal and consists of a pack t-shirt. The class B uniform is worn during outdoor and physical activities, camping, hiking, etc.
Class A uniforms should be worn at all Den, Pack and Scouting events, unless noted otherwise!
