Hello Pack 1343 Families!
Our Cubs have been busy learning, exploring, and earning awards, and we have lots of exciting events coming up. Read on for recent highlights, important reminders, and what is next for the pack. As always, please reach out with any questions. We are happy to help. And sign up for SUMMER CAMP.
⚜️ Upcoming Events
🌅 Arrows of Light Crossover Ceremony
Monday, March 16 | 7:00–8:00 pm
Piney Branch Elementary School
Please join us as we celebrate our 5th grade Arrow of Light Scouts as they cross over into Scouts BSA. This is a meaningful milestone and a proud moment for our Scouts and families. All pack families are encouraged to attend and cheer them on.
⛺ Summer Camp
We would love for every Scout who wants to attend camp to be able to do so this year. We are excited to offer three great options:
Camp William B. Snyder Day Camp for Scouts in current kindergarten through 4th grade. This is a great choice for first-time campers or those not ready for overnight camp.
Bear Overnight Camp at Camp Snyder for current 2nd graders, designed specifically around Bear adventures and requirements.
Overnight Camp at Camp Ross in Goshen, Virginia for current 3rd and 4th graders, rising Webelos and AOLs.
The signup form is now live so we can take advantage of important cost-saving deadlines. Early-bird pricing for all three camps ends April 14, and District campership applications are due by February 1.

🚴♂️ Pack Bike Ride and Hike
Sunday, March 22 | 2:00 pm
Join us for our annual pack bike ride and hike. We will meet at the playground pavilion at Victory Elementary School, start with a brief bike safety lesson from Nova CycleWorks, and then head out. (This will meet the requirements for the bicycling adventure for every rank)
Bike riders will enjoy a group ride.
Non-bikers are welcome to join a one-mile hike along the Broad Run Trail.
If your Scout needs a bike, let us know and we will try to find one. Please remember to bring your six hiking essentials in a daypack.
🎣 Pack Fishing Trip
April 26 | 2:00 pm - 4pm
New Bristow Village Pond
Join us for a relaxed and fun afternoon of fishing. We will have some poles and bait available, but please bring your own gear if you have it. Last time, one Scout caught 12 fish, so you never know what might happen. Dress for the weather and remember bug spray.

🏎️ Pinewood Derby Blue and Gold Celebration Recap 🎂
We got off to a slow start, but the Scouts had fun with Mr. Jake playing a game while we waited. Jacob Mosser from the Prince William District was on hand to award special shoulder patches to Scouts who sold more than $650 in popcorn. Way to go, Scouts.
The races were very competitive this year, with some heats decided by hundredths of a second. Congratulations to all of our derby winners. First place winners will go on to represent Pack 1343 at the District Race on March 21.
Thank you to Tim Unrue and Benji Rosen for setting up the track, and to Misty Lindsey and Sandi Graves for the decorations and for organizing the food. A huge thank you as well to all of our other volunteers who helped make this event a success.

🙋♀️ Volunteer With the Pack
Pack 1343 runs on parent involvement, and we would love to grow our leadership team for next year. Whether you have a little time or a lot, there is a role for you. Training and support are always provided.
🔴 High Priority Needs
Popcorn Kernel Trainee
Work alongside our current Popcorn Kernels this fall to learn the ropes before taking the lead in the future. This is our biggest, most important fundraiser and helps keep pack costs low for families. Busy time is from August to November, lots of training opportunities available.
Pack Secretary
Help keep meeting notes, assist with communication, update social media, and support the committee in staying organized and informed.
2026–2027 Lion Den Leader
We are looking ahead to next year’s incoming Lions. This is a fun and rewarding role guiding our youngest Scouts as they begin their Scouting adventure. Full support and resources are provided.
🟡 Additional Needs
Assistant Cubmaster
Support the Cubmaster with pack meetings, ceremonies, and special events, and attend one Committee meeting a month.
2026–2027 Campout Food Coordinator
This role consists of two campouts per year. The coordinator helps plan 3 simple menus and organize volunteers for our campouts. It is a great way to contribute without a year-round commitment.
Planning Committee Members
Interested in helping shape pack events, budgets, activities, and goals? Join our Planning Committee and help us dream big for next year. Meetings are once a month with an Annual Planning meeting in June.
If you are curious about any of these roles, please reach out. We are happy to answer questions, explain responsibilities, or let you shadow before committing. Many hands make light work, and when parents step in, our Scouts benefit the most.
⚜️ Den Corner
Wolves 🐺
The Wolves are working on a fun elective adventure, Air of the Wolf. Scouts get to experiment with different kinds of paper airplanes while learning the basics of aerodynamics. We are only 3 den meetings away from the end of the year, your Wolf should have all six required adventures completed. You should have received an email with any missing requirements. If your Wolf needs help finishing these requirements let Kat or Damian know.
Webelos ⚜️
You should have received an email with an update on your Scout’s progress toward their next rank. Please take a moment to review it and make a plan to finish any remaining adventures. All requirements need to be completed by May 11, so let us know if you need help wrapping anything up. We’re excited to celebrate everyone’s hard work!
Arrow of Light 🌅
If your Scout is preparing to cross over, please reach out to Mr. Sare to share your plans so we can make sure everything is ready for a special and smooth ceremony. By now, all requirements should be completed. If your Scout still needs to finish any last adventures, please let us know as soon as possible. We are happy to help make a plan to wrap things up. We’re excited to celebrate this big milestone together! 🏕️✨
